Kaufmann's Dedicates Deck to Connor Freed

The little boy with the angel eyes who drowned at the Crofton Country
Club five years ago will live on forever at a restaurant in Gambrills.

Family and friends gathered Thursday at Kaufmann’s Tavern to witness the unveiling of a plaque in Connor Freed’s memory.

Kaufmann’s new outdoor patio will now be known as “Connor’s Corner.”

General manager Daniel Carr said the idea to dedicate the deck to Connor came from the Kaufmann’s staff.

“The owner James King is really good friends with the Neagles and
ever since Connor passed away we have hosted events and fundraisers for
the Connor Cares Foundation. So, when we built the deck, we really
didn’t have any idea what we wanted to call it or what we wanted to do
with it,” Carr said. “James King along with employees was like, ‘why
don’t we do something for the Neagles and we will call it Connor’s
Corner.’ It just worked and it’s a great idea. It’s really nice to give
back to the community who gives so much to us. It’s an honor to have a
job where we can interact and give back.”

Connor’s parents, Thomas Freed and Debbie Neagle-Freed, said
Kaufmann’s was Connor’s favorite place to eat and he always walked
around the restaurant as if he owned it.

“We have such great memories here and it is truly an honor to have Connor’s memory kept alive,” The Freeds said.

Even though Connor’s sister, 3-year-old Emma Freed, never knew her
big brother, her parents said she speaks of him often and feels a strong
connection with him.

“Connor has turned into a baby angel in the sky,” Emma said.
